Outdoor spaces shaped slowly, made to grow beautifully

Meadow & Muse creates relaxed, planting-led gardens, builds them with care, and returns to keep them looking their best. From compact town plots to open country gardens.

How we work

Draw. Build. Tend.

Three stages, one studio. The same people plan your garden, build it and come back to look after it.

Design

Measured drawings, planting plans and material choices shaped around how you use your garden day to day. Initial concepts from £480, deducted in full if we go on to build.

Build

Natural stone, timber, brickwork and generous planting, delivered by our own crew from first dig to final sweep. One team, one conversation, no unfamiliar faces on site.

Care

Regular visits that help the garden settle and improve: timely pruning, dividing, feeding and thoughtful editing as the seasons change.

Selected projects

Work from the past year

A gardener settling a young perennial into freshly prepared soil
Planting in progress, ReadingSeven hundred perennials and bulbs placed over three days, with the borders filling out strongly by the following autumn.
A modern garden at dusk with warm lighting and a limestone terrace
An evening terrace, NewburyStone paving, soft planting and discreet lighting for clients who use the garden mainly after work.

A garden should improve with time, not peak on day one. Shrubs settling in, hedges thickening and plants finding their own rhythm are part of the design. We plan for year four and beyond, choosing planting that suits Berkshire soil, light and weather rather than a single photograph.

Common questions

Answers before you book

Common questions from first visits, answered plainly and without sales talk.

How much does garden design cost?+

Initial concept work starts at £480 and includes measured plans, planting suggestions and material choices tailored to your garden. If we build the project, that fee comes off the final invoice.

Do you offer a free first visit?+

Yes. We take our time walking the space with you, discussing light, soil, views and how you want to use the garden, then follow up with straightforward advice on what is realistic.

Can you maintain a garden you did not create?+

Yes. Our seasonal visits are available whether we created the garden or not: spring reset from £195, summer upkeep from £130 per visit, and autumn reset from £170. Every visit finishes with a brief note of what we did and what to keep an eye on.

Do you provide ongoing care throughout the year?+

We do. Monthly care plans cover spring, summer, autumn and winter checks from £105 per month, so planting keeps its shape and the garden grows into the design rather than away from it.

Where do you work, and how do we get started?+

We work across Winchester, Newbury, Basingstoke, and Reading within 15 miles. Call 0123 456 7890 between 8:30am and 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, or on Saturday by appointment, and we will arrange a garden visit.

Testimonials

What our clients say

★★★★★

“They listened to how we wanted to use the garden, not how a magazine said we should. Eighteen months later it feels fuller and more natural than we imagined.”

Helen & Mark TrevelyanWokingham
★★★★★

“A narrow shaded courtyard I had almost given up on. They chose plants that actually thrive there, and the care visits keep it looking effortless.”

Ruth AdebayoReading
★★★★★

“Courteous, tidy and clearly proud of their work. Our terrace has become the room we use most from April to October.”

The studio

A close-knit studio, rooted in practical gardening

Meadow & Muse began in 2016 when horticulturist Ava Linden and landscape builder Leo Hart joined forces. We stay intentionally small: one design studio, one build crew and a care route we know well. That lets us give proper attention to every garden we take on.
